BGF ligands for SNAP-tag mimics of fluorescent proteins

BGF series fluorogenic ligands are non-emitting molecular rotors in free form, however, they exibit bright, rainbow fluorescence when bind to the self-labeling SNAP-tag and conformational locked. The palette of SNAP-tag mimics of fl uorescent proteins (SmFPs)  thus generated possess bright, rapidly inducible fluorescence ranging from cyan to infrared.

SmFPs are integral chemical-genetic entities based on the same fluorogenic principle as Fluorescent Proteins, i.e., genetically encoded, induction of fluorescence, minimal background.  These SmFPs are useful in real-time tracking of protein expression, degradation, binding interactions, trafficking, and assembly.

These optimally designed SmFPs outperform FPs like GFP in many important ways, such as extremely fast fluorescence maturation,  much higher and faster signal in bimolecular fluorescence complementation assays (BiFC) to study protein–protein interactions, and multiplex pulse chase for the study of protein turn-over.
